Laser Printing and Materials Processing (LPMP)

The group of Materials Laser Microprocessing (MLMP) is headed by Prof. Ioanna Zergioti, and is located at the Physics Department of the National Technical University of Athens. The group's research activities encompass laser materials processing for optoelectronics and biological applications.

1. Laser additive manufacturing

Among the main achievements of the MLMP group are the all-laser fabrication of organic thin film transistors, organic photovoltaics and sensors and the laser sintering/curing of micro and nanostructures (silver, copper) for a wide range of applications, including interconnections. After years of innovative research, the group is now capable of achieving laser printing (using the Laser Induced Forward Transfer technique) and laser sintering of conductive materials at speeds > 1m/s, with resolution down to <10μm.

2. Laser Bioprinting

MLMP has expertise in laser materials processing for optoelectronics and biological applications. Among the main achievements of the group is the use of laser pulses to directly print biomolecules on biosensors and polymers on chemical sensors. Furthermore it has recently demonstrated the selective printing of: (i) photosystem II laser direct immobilization for herbicides detection sensors (patent is pending) and (ii) organic polymers on capacitive sensors for chemical sensing applications.

Commission selects first EIC Transition projects

We are very proud and happy to be within the first selected EIC Transition projects for the project entitled "Laser digital transfer of 2D materials enabled photonics: from the lab 2 the fab (L2D2)"! EIC is a great initiative for Europe supporting innovation. This new scheme is designed to turn research results generated by EIC Pathfinder pilot projects and European Research Council (ERC) Proof of Concept projects into commercially viable ventures, by validating the technologies in real world settings and building the business case to bring the innovations to market.

SPIE 3D Printing Award Winners

Prof. Zergioti received the 3D Printing Award at the SPIE Photonics West 2020, San Francisco, 1-6 February 2020 for her work presented at the invited paper “Laser Induced Forward Transfer as a tool for precise bioprinting” as a recognition for their fundamental work in the development of a single step laser bioprinting and immobilization process that offers a significant step towards research of cell properties confined in scaffold environments.

Συμμετοχή στον 3ο Διαγωνισμό Εφαρμοσμένης Έρευνας & Καινοτομίας «Η Ελλάδα Καινοτομεί!»

Η Ερευνητική Ομάδα με μέλη τους υποψήφιους διδάκτορες Γιάννη Θεοδωράκο, Μαριανέζα Χατζηπέτρου, Μαρίνα Μακρύγιαννη, Σίμο Παπάζογλου, τους μεταδιδάκτορες Μαρία Μασαούτη, Φιλήμονα Ζαχαράτο και εκπρόσωπο την Αναπληρώτρια Καθηγήτρια Ιωάννα Ζεργιώτη πήρε μέρος στον πρώτο κύκλο του διαγωνισμού με την πρόταση «Έξυπνη τεχνική εκτύπωσης λειτουργικών υλικών και μικροδιατάξεων με λέιζερ», κατά τον οποίο συγκαταλέχθηκε στους 10 φιναλίστ του πεδίου ΚΑΙΝΟΤΟΜΙΑ. Η Β΄ Φάση του διαγωνισμού ολοκληρώθηκε με τη διαδικασία της ανοιχτής, στο κοινό, προφορικής αξιολόγησης και την τελετή βράβευσης. Η Τελετή βράβευσης πραγματοποιήθηκε τη Τρίτη 23 Φεβρουαρίου του 2016. Η ομάδα βραβεύτηκε με το δέυτερο βραβείο στη κατηγορία της Καινοτομίας:
